Francis S. “Frank” Lumberg, 84, of Ashland, died peacefully Friday, November 10, 2017, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
He was born March 22, 1933, in Buffalo, New York. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and three brothers.
Frank retired in 1992 from Ashland Oil after a long career in refinery sales. An avid runner, Frank competed in countless races including 5Ks, 10Ks, half marathons and the San Francisco Marathon, often finishing first in his age category and always finishing “standing up and sucking wind.” He shared the gift of his singing voice at numerous local venues and gatherings. His passion for volunteering included giving his time to Community Hospice, the VA Hospital, King’s Daughters Medical Center, River Cities Harvest, Community Kitchen, and Bellefonte Hospital.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 54 years, Mary Lumberg; daughters, Heidi Lumberg and Julie Lumberg-Osborne and son in law Paul Osborne; and a host of extended family members and dear friends.
At Frank’s request, there will be no funeral services. A celebration of his life as well as a memorial 5K run/walk are being planned for the spring, dates to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Frank’s memory be made to Community Hospice in Ashland.
A man of his word with a heart of gold, he will be missed and remembered by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
