James Ray “Jimmy” Stamper, 91, of Ashland, passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Morning Pointe in Russell. Mr. Stamper was born January 10, 1926 in Farmers, KY, a son of the late Harry and Corda CornetteStamper. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife Faye Stamper in 1993, brothers Kenneth Stamper, Jerry Stamper, sisters Lucille Gant, Bernice Gant and Anna Lou Perry. Mr. Stamper served in the US Army with the military police from 1946 to 1947 in occupied Japan. He retired from CSX in 1989 after 45 years of service as a brakeman and conductor. He was a member of the Shawnee Church of God in Flatwoods. Survivors include his son James A. Stamper and wife Pam of Ashland, his daughter Deborah K. Adkins and husband Steve of Nicholasville, KY, two grandchildren Joshua (Melissa) Adkins, Lisa (Jason) Kidd both of Georgetown, KY, three great grandchildren Eli, Kamden, Wyatt, brother Charles Stamper of California and a host of extended family and friends, Funeral services with full military honors will be held 1:00pm Friday, September 29, 2017 at the Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel by Pastor Rob Jordan. Entombment will follow at Rose hill Burial Park. Visitation will be from 11:00am till 1:00pm at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the Doctors and Staff of Morning Pointe and Community Hospice for their kindness, love, and compassionate care.
