Jerry Richard Sexton, 71, of Huntington, WV, formerly of Catlettsburg, passed away Thursday, June 08, 2017, at Huntington Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born August 15, 1946, in Louisville, KY, a son of the late Gordon Lee and Rena Grace McQuigg Sexton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carrie Elizabeth Clarkston Sexton in 2008.
Jerry was a graduate of Marshall University. He retired after 20 years of service from Federal Judge Robert Staker’s office in Huntington. Prior to that he worked as a police officer in Detroit, Michigan. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and spending time with his grandchildren and family.
Survivors include two daughters, Leslie Sexton Pope (Austin) of Huntington, WV, and Diana Lynn Sexton of Ashland; brother, Ronald Sexton (Mary) of Nevada and four adoring grandchildren, Anthony Pierce Boyd, Joseph Parker Boyd, Raiden Lee Pope and Caraighan Faith Pope.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held Noon Tuesday, June 13th 2017, at Steen Funeral Home 13th Street Chapel with Pastor Danny Clarkston officiating. Burial will follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery, North East where military honors will be provided by the U. S. Army and American Legion Kenova Post 93.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 P.M. Monday, June 12th, 2017, at the funeral home.
