Sibyl Greene McCarty

Sibyl Greene McCarty, 94, of Ashland, peacefully passed away Monday, June 12, 2017 at Woodland Oaks in Ashland. Sibyl was born Nov. 22, 1922 in Paintsville, KY, a daughter of the late Lonnie and Alice Fairchild Greene. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Emery McCarty in 1993. Sibyl was raised in Johnson County, KY and graduated from Oil Springs High School. She loved to attend church and was a member of the East Fork United Baptist Church. She retired as the restaurant manager from the former G.C. Murphy Company with 25 years of service. She was a loving mother grandmother and great grandmother. Survivors include her son Larry McCarty and his wife Janet of Lexington, KY, grandchildren Melissa (Keith) Grubb of Catlettsburg, Jeffrey McCarty of Mt. Sterling, KY, Alison (Edwin) Fisher of St. Louis, MO, Ryan (Megan) McCarty of Nicholasville, KY, great grandchildren Andrew Grubb, Emily Grubb, Christian McCarty, Keaton McCarty, Brittany Fisher, Megan Fisher, Zachary Fisher, Deacon McCarty and a host of extended family and friends. Funeral services will be held 11:00am Thursday, June 15, 2017 at the Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel by Elders David Trimble, Junior Murray and C.J. Murray. Interment will be in the Marvin Sparks Cemetery in Blaine. Her grandsons and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday evening from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
