Webb Young, 91, of Ashland, peacefully passed away Thursday, October 12, 2017 at the Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester, KY. Webb was born July 11, 1926 in Barrett, WV, a son of the late Morton and Willia Pennington Young. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife Jean Calhoun Young, daughter Karen Young Dempsey, brothers, Harry, Paul, Richard and James Young, sisters Julia Thompson, Louise Parks and his son-in-law Jim Ross. Mr. Young was a longtime educational leader of the community. He served as principal at Rose Hill High School in Mercer County, KY, also Boyd County, Fairview and Paul G. Blazer High Schools. He was a member of the Ashland Rotary Club where he also served as past president and district governor. He was a mason and a 70 year member of the Willard Masonic Lodge #626 F&AM and served as Past Master and Past District Deputy. He proudly served his country during World War II with the United States Army. Survivors include his son Conard E. Young and wife Geraldine of Winchester, KY, daughter Darlene Young Ross of Lexington, KY, grandchildren Denise (Scott) Gerkens, Janelle (Anthony) Hummel, Tyler (Jessica) Dempsey, Clarke (Robin) Dempsey, Justin (Elizabeth) Ross, Courtney (Mike) Samford, Taylor (Patrick) Milburn, great grandchildren Kayla Gerkens, Wesley Griffith, Hayley Hummel, Holly Hummel, Natalie Anderson, Andrew Hummel, Trevor Webb Dempsey, Cooper Willis Dempsey, Robert Donta Dempsey, Webb Harold Dempsey, Caroline Samford, Penny Milburn and many nieces, nephews and a host of extended family and friends. The family would like to personally thank his caregiver Sharon Foster for her exceptional care and support. Funeral services will be held 11:00amTuesday, October 17, 2017 at the Steen Funeral Home 13th St. Chapel by Dr. Bill Messer. Burial will follow in the East Carter Memory Gardens in Grayson, KY with full military honors. Visitation will be from 6-9pm Monday evening at the Funeral Home with a masonic service at 7:30pm.
