Cornell Preston Fish, 81, of Ironton, OH was called to eternal rest on Sunday, March 18, 2018, at the Community Care Hospice Center in Ashland, KY. He was born on November 29, 1936, in Ashland, KY, to the late Mitchell and Vivian Ballou Fish.
He retired from the state of New York as a Law Enforcement Officer. Cornell was a proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. He was also a Veteran of the United States Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, David Fish, two sisters, Marguerite Johnson, and Georgia Fish Farrow, and one daughter April Dailey.
Cornell accepted Christ at an early age and loved the Lord. He was a member of St. James A.M.E. Church in Ashland, KY, where he faithfully served as a member of the Trustee Board, Steward Board, Lay Organization, Superintendent of Church School, and Choir. He was also a dedicated Delegate to the Kentucky Annual Conference for many years.
Cornell leaves behind to cherish his loving memory one son, Cornell Preston Fish Jr.; two daughters Vandarlyn Winnell Fish, and Tonya Singh, all of Detroit, MI., and one sister Patricia (Charles) Jones of Phoenix, AZ. He is also survived by a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends and will truly be missed.
A Celebration of Cornell’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at 12:00 p.m. at St. James A.M.E. Church, with words of comfort provided by Rev. Tony A. Gooch and Rev. LaVeeshia Pryor. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East.
