Gerald Wayne “Jerry” Kemper, 70, of Ashland, KY passed away on June 17, 2022 at Kings Daughters’ Medical Center. He was born in Ypsilanti, MI on December 5, 1951 to the late Edward Lee and Edna Holmes Kemper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Karen Selby Kemper (2011), his brother Danny Lee Kemper and by an infant brother James Kemper.
He studied journalism at the University of KY and was retired from Marthon Oil as an operator. He was a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church and was a disaster relief volunteer with the Kentucky Baptist Convention. Jerry also was a blood drive donor for the American Red Cross and a volunteer usher at the Paramount Arts Center. He was an avid UK fan, loved classic cars and loved to fish but probably loved his family gatherings the most.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife Valerie Kemper of Ashland, KY, a sister Carol Henson and husband Bernard “Butch” of South Point, OH, a special sister-in-law known as his sister, Carol Johnson and husband Lee of San Antonio, TX, a sister-in-law Becky Hitchens and husband Charlie of Gulf Shores, AL, brothers-in-law Curt Selby and wife Debbie of Fresco, TX and Larry Hilton and wife Jenny of St. Paul, MN, three special nieces Lisa Griffith and husband Randall of Ashland, KY, Missy Hall and husband Darrell of Chesapeake, OH and Melanie Brogan (Scott Mauk) of Proctorville, OH, and a nephew Christopher Kemper and wife Brandi of Lexington, KY as well as numerous great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at 1:00 PM at STEEN FUNERAL HOME-CENTRAL AVENUE CHAPEL and will be officiated by Pastor Matt Shamblin. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until service time. Those serving as pallbearers will be Joe Bauers, Cameron Brogan, Randall Griffith, Darrell Hall, Scott Mauk, Brendan Meadows and Garret Royse. Entombment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.
