Howard Craig Wallace, 72, of Catlettsburg, KY, passed away peacefully to his heavenly home on September 23, 2020 at the Hospice Care Center in Ashland, KY.
Howard was born on April 11, 1948 in Pikeville, KY. He was a son of the late Virgil and Martha Bryant Wallace.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Judy Wallace; children, Michele Wallace Bailey of Lexington, KY and Craig Wallace (Megan) of Ashland, KY; and grandchildren, Quinn Bailey and Morgan Wallace. He is, also, survived by a brother, Herman Wallace (Judy) of Flemingsburg, KY and a sister, Jessie Singleton (Dusty) of Ashland, KY and several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Howard graduated from Boyd County High School in 1966 and obtained a Bachelors, Masters and Rank One in Education from Morehead State University. Howard was a teacher, principal, and assistant superintendent at Boyd County Schools before becoming superintendent of Magoffin County Schools. He went on to retire as assistant superintendent of Pulaski County Schools. After retirement, he served as the director of the sanitation district #4.
He was actively involved in his church, Second Freewill Baptist, Ashland, KY, where he was a charter member, an elder and a life group leader. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf and riding his Honda Gold Wing. He rode his motorcycle in all 48 contiguous states except for Florida. Additionally, he was the local coordinator for AARP tax aide and a Kentucky Colonel.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Second Freewill Baptist Church, 2121 29th Street, Ashland, KY by Rev. James Lindsey. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. till 1:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Mausoleum. Arrangements have been entrusted to Steen Funeral Homes.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Howard’s memory to Second Freewill Baptist Church, 2121 29th Street, Ashland, KY 41101 or the Hospice Care Center, 2330 Pollard Road, Ashland, KY 41101.
