John H. “Junior” Thompson, Jr, 77 of Ashland, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. Mr. Thompson was born January 29, 1942 in Ashland, a son of the late John H. Sr, and Braunda Lee Sparks Thompson. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his sister Sherri Thompson and his mother-in-law, which he had a very special relationship with, Wanda Tufts Scott.
Junior was a very active man. He loved vintage cars and riding motorcycles. He owned and operated Thompson Excavating, was a supervisor with Nick Dinalco and a member of Local 181 operating engineers Ashland, KY. Mr. Thompson was a member of the Meade Station Church of God, the El Hasa Shrine and a mason of the Rush Masonic Lodge #715 F&AM. He also was a member of the Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. #350 in Ashland and the American Legion Post 76.
Junior was loved by everyone. He always had a smile on his face and was a humble man. He enjoyed his many hobbies and had a very good life on this earth, he will be deeply missed by those who knew him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife and best friend of 60 years Patty Tufts Thompson of Ashland, his children that were crazy about their dad, Richard Allen Thompson and fiancé Cindy of Ashland, Margaret Ann Bowman and husband Mark of Greenup, his brother Charles (Leslie) Thompson, his sister Lesa (Cam) Crum, his grandchildren and great grandchildren he adored, David Thompson, Dr. Addison (Maggie)Young, Blake Young, Maryanna Thompson, Xavier Thompson, a special little girl, Shelby, a very special uncle Bill Sparks and a host of extended family, dear friends and buddies.
Funeral services will be held 11:00am Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the Meade Station Church of God by Pastor Rob Jordan and Chris Murphy. Burial will follow in the Thompson Family Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday evening at the church from 6-9 PM.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Steen Funeral Home.
