Lucy C. Charles

Lucy C. Charles, 83, of Ashland, peacefully passed away Wednesday morning, November 13, 2019 at her residence surround by her loving family. Lucy was born June 14, 1936 in Princeton, West Virginia, a daughter of the late John W. and Virginia McGinnis Calhoun. In addition to her parents, Lucy was also preceded in death by her brother John William Calhoun.
Lucy was a graduate of the Mullens High School in Mullens, West Virginia. After high school she enrolled into St. Mary’s School of Nursing program in Huntington, WV. She graduated in 1956 as a registered nurse and began a long and fulfilling career in nursing. She retired from Cabell Huntington Hospital as Nurse Manager of Maternal Child Health.
Lucy was a member of Wildwood Church of God. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. She will always be in the thoughts and hearts of her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 64 years Joseph H. “Joe” Charles of Ashland, her son Joe Charles and wife Ginger of Ashland, daughters Mary Charles Neill and husband Jeff of Ashland, Cathy Charles Sparks and husband Mike of Ashland, her grandchildren she adored Sarah (Jeremy) Holbrook, Laura (Anthony) Ferguson, Jeffrey (Destiny) Neill, Joel (Tori) Sparks, Rachel (Jeff) Poarch, Timothy (Katie) Neill, great-grandchildren Katelyn Ferguson, Mya Ferguson, Carson Holbrook, Lucy Ferguson, Andrew Neill, Dylan Holbrook, Jeffrey Thomas Neill, III, Dominic Sparks and a host of extended family and good friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Friday, November 15, 2019 at the Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel by Pastor Steve Harris. Burial will be in the Ashland Cemetery.
Visitation will be held prior to services Friday at the funeral home from 12:00noon till 2:00pm.
