Margaret Songer, known to her friends as “Eileen,” died Nov. 29, 2021, at Oakmont Manor.
Eileen was proceeded in death by her parents, Thomas F. Songer and Louella Margaret Bell Songer.
Eileen graduated from Paul Blazer High School in 1965. She was a talented musician, and after high school she attended Morehead State University, receiving a bachelor’s degree, majoring in music and English. She later completed additional graduate work in music education. She was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota fraternity. Eileen taught music at Rock Hill high school and later at Ashland Child Development Center.
Eileen was an active member of Calvary Episcopal Church where she sang in the choir, was a member of the hand bell choir, assisted with children’s music, and played piano. She was a member of the Altar Guild and Daughters of the King.
She loved animals and rescued many over the years. She is survived by her cats, Rusty and Katy, who have found new forever homes with members of her church.
A memorial service to celebrate Eileen’s life will be held at Calvary Episcopal Church on Wednesday, Feb. 2, at 11:00am. Entombment will follow at Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum.
