Paul Raymond Kleykamp, M.D., 93 of Wurtland, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at Oakmont Manor in Flatwoods. Dr. Kleykamp was born July 27, 1925 in Ashland, KY, a son of the late Gayheart and Minnie Appleton Kleykamp. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his first wife Betty Debord Kleykamp, his son Dr. Paul Raymond Kleykamp, brothers Donald Louis Kleykamp Sr., Gayheart Conrad Kleykamp Sr., Joseph Frederick Kleykamp, Sr., sisters Martha Frances Kleykamp, Dorothy Louise Hurst and Sarah Catherine Layne.
Paul was a member of the Gospel Tabernacle Church of God, a member of the Kings Messenger Quartet and served as church pianist, organist and Sunday school teacher. Dr. Kleykamp received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1952.
Dr. Kleykamp had a family practice for seven years and then onto a prestigious career as Chief Physician at Armco Steel Company from 1960 to 1985. He served for six years on the Ashland School Board, fifteen years as team doctor for Ashland athletic group, past president of the Boyd County medical association, chief of medical staff at Kings Daughters Medical Center, served on staff at Kings Daughters and Our Lady of Bellefonte, served on the board of directors in the formative years of community hospice and proudly served his country from 1943 to 1946 with the United States Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife Mary Margaret Flannery Kleykamp and her daughter Connie Flannery Mauk and husband Bryan of Wurtland, son David Lee Kleykamp, PhD of Taiwan, daughter Linda Louise Kleykamp of Chicago, IL.
A memorial service will be held 3:00pm Sunday, December 9, 2018 at the Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel by Pastor Acy Gibson.
Visitation will be from 2:00pm till 3:00pm Sunday at the funeral home.
