Phyllis Dove Hicks, 75, of Ashland, died peacefully at Community Hospice on Friday, September 10, 2021.
She was born August 21, 1946, in Ashland, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Dock D. Dove, Jr. and Dorothy Kazee Dove. In addition to her parents, her beloved husband, Martin Dale “Marty” Hicks, preceded her in death on August 11, 2000.
Throughout her life, Phyllis worked as a Kindergarten Aide at First Church of the Nazarene; she worked for Dr. Jeffrey Lopez and Dr. Carol Cooper. Once her grandchildren were born, she retired to become a full time Nana and enjoyed every moment that she could spend with them. Phyllis attended the Church of God Church. She was an avid Ashland Tomcat and U.K. Basketball fan.
Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Angela Sue VanHorn and husband, Stephen, and Marci Hicks Prater and husband, Donny; sister, Regina “Sue” Dove; and four beloved grandchildren, Chloe Alyse VanHorn, , William Martin Prater, Emma Grace VanHorn and Rylan Andrew Prater.
A celebration of Phyllis’s life will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at Wildwood Church of God with words of comfort provided by Pastor Peter Hall, Pastor Trey Parsons and Pastor Steve Harris. Burial will follow in Ashland Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, at the STEEN FUNERAL HOME 13TH STREET CHAPEL.
