Richard A. “Rick” Peterson, Jr., 82, of Ashland, passed away Friday, August 2, 2019 at Kings Daughters and Sons Home for Senior Living in Ashland. Rick was born February 1, 1937 in Tampa, Florida, a son of the late Richard A. Sr., and Gertrude Patricia English Peterson. In addition to his parents, Rick was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years Norma Graley Peterson and his brother Hans Patrick Peterson.
Rick received his bachelors degree in science from Georgia Tech and his masters from the University of Cincinnati. Rick, along with his late wife Norma, moved to the Ashland area and started a career with Armco Steel Company. He retired from Armco as a supervising chemist after many years of service. He was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church in Ashland having served in vestry duties, church treasurer and Sunday school teacher. Rick also was a member of the Ashland Lions Club, Elks Lodge B.P.O.E #350 and served his country honorably with the United States Army.
After retirement Rick moved to Florence, KY and began a teaching career in the Boone County School system. He taught science and math for 10 years and attended the Florence Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children Richard Peterson and wife Sheila of Cincinnati, OH, Patrick Peterson and wife Kim of Slippery Rock, PA, Chris Peterson and wife Kellie of Coal Grove, OH, Sylvia Handloser and husband Mark of Cannonsburg, grandchildren Richie Peterson, Michael Peterson, Rebekah Davis, Timothy Peterson, Holly Peterson, Chris Peterson, great grandchildren Elijah Peterson, Annabelle Peterson, Xander Davis, Ariel Davis and a host of extended family and good friends.
Funeral service will be held 1:00pm Friday, August 9, 2019 at the Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel by The Reverend TJ Azar. Entombment will be in the Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.
Visitation will be held Friday prior to the service from 12:00 Noon till service time at 1:00 at the Funeral Home.
