Tribute

Steven Clayton “Bo” Adkins, 68, of Pedro, Ohio, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2021 at the VA Medical Center in Huntington, WV. Bo was born November 15, 1952 in Ashland, KY. He was one of four children born to the late Gene Clayton and Ina Mae Catron Adkins.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law David McAllister.
Bo retired from AK Steel as a crane operator. He also worked as a crane operator and operated various other equipment for ACF Industries in Huntington.
He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War with the United States Navy aboard the naval destroyer USS Claude V. Ricketts, DDG-5. The ship was originally named the USS Biddle, named after Nicholas Biddle, one of the first five captains of the Continental Navy, and renamed after the death of Admiral Ricketts who died in July of 1964. Stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, Bo traveled the world with deployments to the Mediterranean Sea, northern European regions and the Caribbean Sea.
As a Boy Scout, Bo earned the Eagle Scout Award and continued to stay active in scouting teaching the aquatics program at Camp Arrowhead for several years. He loved nature and the outdoors. He would often take daily walks in the woods surrounding his home with his K-9 companion Cogi. He loved to search for arrowheads and antler sheds. He was strong in his faith in Jesus Christ and witnessed to all he met. Love, gentleness and kindness was shown by him to family, friends and strangers. He would take a stranger that was in need into his home and give them a place to stay overnight. He will be greatly missed.
