Timothy D. Simpson, 69, of Ashland, passed away Monday, September 17, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Simpson was born September 20, 1948 in Ashland, a son of the late Paul Darrell and Virginia Katherine Moore Simpson. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a daughter Amanda Ray Simpson, a grandson Connor Carl Mays and a brother-in-law Garland White.
Tim served faithfully at Ashland Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school for 37 years, first with the teen’s ministry and then the pairs & spares. He also served with the hospitality ministry. He was an avid UK Sports fan.
Tim retired from CSX as a conductor on the Big Sandy and Lexington divisions. He served his country honorably during Vietnam with the United States Army.
Survivors include his wife Tammy Young Simpson of Ashland, sons, Timothy Scott Simpson of Ashland, Gregory Allen Mays and wife Aleata of Ashland, daughters Angela Dawn Hammond and husband Chris of Flatwoods, Ashley Daryl Gilliam and husband Johnny of Charleston, SC, Tiffany Michelle Fox and husband Ryan of South Shore, KY, brother George Simpson and wife Judy, sister Patricia White of Ashland, grandchildren Courtney (Simeon) Cox, Kaitlin Hammond, Alex Hammond, Alexis Scott, Austin Stein, Andrew Gilliam, Madilynn Gilliam, Rilynn Gilliam, Eilynn Gilliam, Caroline Fox, Lucas Mays, Owen Mays, two great-grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11:00am Thursday, September 20, 2018 at the Steen Funeral Home 13th Street Chapel by C.J. Adkins and Shane Cox. Burial will follow with full military honors by The Patriot Guard and Kenova Post #93 at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East in Greenup County.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
