Walter S. Clayton, Jr., 85, of Cannonsburg, died peacefully on Friday, July 24, 2020, in Cabell Huntington Hospital.
He was born August 17, 1934, in Paintsville, Kentucky, a son of the late Walter Stanton Clayton Sr. and Elizabeth Witten Clayton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Judith Fultz Clayton on February 1, 2020; two brothers, Charles and Edgar Clayton; and a sister, Dorothy Humphrey.
Walter attended First Baptist Church of Cannonsburg. He graduated high school in Gary, W.Va., and attended Concord College in Athens, W.Va. He served honorably in the United States Army and retired following a long career as an Ironworker in Ashland.
Survivors include a son, Edgar "E.J." Clayton (Kim) of Russell; daughter, Stacey Clayton Rhodes (Thomas) of Eleanor, W.Va.; grandchildren, Lexie Clayton Boyd (Trent), Luke, Lauren and Beau Rhodes; and a great-granddaughter, Gracelynn Marie Boyd.
Due to the ongoing Covid 19 Pandemic, a private graveside service will be held at Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel with Pastor Lee Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Ashland Cemetery.
